Jakarta, Indonesia — Yaries Mahardika Putro, lecturer in International Law at the University of Surabaya and researcher at the Center for Air and Space Policy (CASP), has contributed a significant scholarly chapter to the newly published book “Keantariksaan untuk Masyarakat dan Kemajuan Bangsa: Konsep dan Kebijakan,” edited by Prof. Thomas Djamaluddin and Fitri Nuraeni, and published by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
The chapter, titled “Tinjauan Hukum dalam Pembangunan dan Komersialisasi Bandar Antariksa di Indonesia,” examines the legal foundations, challenges, and prospects of Indonesia’s spaceport development as the country moves toward greater engagement in global space activities. Co-authored with Aris Rahmat Julian Noor, Ridha Aditya Nugraha, and Soraya Sakinah, the chapter provides an in-depth legal analysis relevant to Indonesia’s transition from a traditional spacefaring participant to a state preparing for commercial launch activities under an emerging global space economy.
The study identifies legal pathways to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the Asia-Pacific space domain through spaceport governance, international cooperation, and responsible commercialization practices. This publication aligns closely with CASP’s core research agenda, which focuses on developing legal and policy frameworks for national space infrastructure, analyzing the commercialization and regulation of space activities, promoting safe, responsible, and sustainable space operations, and strengthening Indonesia’s role in regional and global space governance.
Yaries Mahardika Putro’s contribution reinforces CASP’s commitment to producing evidence-based research that supports national policy development and advances Indonesia’s capabilities in the evolving global space sector.
The book is expected to serve as an essential reference for policymakers, academics, and industry stakeholders seeking to understand Indonesia’s strategic direction in space science, technology, and governance.
