CASP Researcher and Interns Honored with Best Presenter Award at International Conference Hosted by Universitas Islam Indonesia

Surabaya, Indonesia — The Center for Air and Space Policy (CASP) proudly announces that its researcher and interns, Yaries Mahardika Putro, Bertrand Elyo, and Shreyasree Paul , have been awarded Best Presenter at the 2nd Postgraduate International Conference on Law, Technology & Society (ICLTS) organized by the Faculty of Law, Universitas Islam Indonesia on 24 November 2025.

Presenting the paper titled “Beyond Peaceful Purposes: How Indonesia and India Drive Towards Space Security Architecture,” the CASP delegation delivered a comprehensive and forward-looking analysis of emerging space security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region. Their research examined how Indonesia’s civilian-led space governance contrasts with India’s increasingly defence-oriented space strategy, and how both approaches shape regional security norms under the framework of the Outer Space Treaty.

This paper aligns directly with CASP’s core research mandate, which focuses on the legal and policy implications of militarization and dual-use technologies in outer space, strengthening regional space governance frameworks, and promoting peaceful, responsible, and sustainable use of outer space.

By presenting a comparative legal and geopolitical assessment, the research reinforces CASP’s commitment to providing strategic insights that support national policy development while contributing to global academic discourse on space law and security architecture.

The conference brought together leading scholars, practitioners, and postgraduate researchers to discuss contemporary issues at the intersection of law, society, and technological innovation. CASP’s recognition as Best Presenter underscores the institution’s growing role as a thought leader in the field of air and space policy.
