Yaries Mahardika Putro is the founder and research fellow at the Centre for Air and Space Policy (CASP). He is also permanent lecturer at the Laboratory of International Law , Faculty of Law, University of Surabaya. Since 2024, he also serves as the Coordinator of the Research, Publication, and Community Service Unit, overseeing academic research, publications, and legal outreach programs. His research interests focus on international law, space law, and air law.
He earned his Bachelor of Law (S.H.) from Universitas Islam Indonesia in 2017 and obtained an LL.M. in European and International Business Law from the University of Debrecen, Hungary, with honors in 2020 and as a recipient of the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship.
Beyond academia, Yaries founded and previously served as Deputy Director of the Base for International Law and ASEAN Legal Studies (BILALS). He is also the founder and research fellow at the Centre for Air and Space Policy (CASP). From 2020 to 2022, he served as Indonesia’s National Point of Contact for the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), promoting youth engagement in space law. He was also part of the expert team for drafting water-based aviation regulations under the Directorate of Air Transportation, Ministry of Transportation of Indonesia from 2021 to 2022.
Yaries has published extensively in international and national reputable journals, covering space law, air law, and international law. His works include studies on satellite mega-constellations, geostationary orbit, space environmental protection, dark and quiet skies policy and air sovereignty issues. Additionally, he actively shares his insights on air and space law or policy in national and international newspapers.
He has spoken at several international law and air and space law forums and received various research grants including funding from the Hungarian Ministry of Justice. Through his research, writing, and speaking engagements, Yaries contributes to legal discourse in Indonesia and globally.
